POet Laureate Project- WWi
Project Description
For this Poet Laureate project each student was given a country to research deeply and eventually write a poem about a specific event which involved their country in World War One. Your event could be in a certain poetic form and would come from a perspective of a soldier, lieutenant, women, family member, etc. That eventually became a book called History Through the Eyes of the Living.
After creating a poem with an essay providing a historical background on a country and why we wrote from the perspective we chose. We then gave a presentation to our class about our country and what we got out of it.
Finally we were each split into groups (editing, design, sound, etc.) to create our own book launch party that was showcased at a local gallery, that made us present and feel proud of our work.

Book launch role
My role in this project was being an event planner. This consisted of what the book launch party will look like and how we will present the project. We all agreed that we didn't want your average exhibition. Instead we wanted something that family and friends will remember and something that could help shine a light on our careers in the future.
Our team worked very hard to showcase this project in a beautiful way. We had a woman, Annie Brooks, come talk to us about what it takes to display a great event. She told us about what the food needs to look like, how the tables are set up, what the room will smell like and the music playing in the background. Maya and I went to work immediately and began buying and creating what the space will look like. We decided on what food we would have and how everything will turn out.
At the night of the event we were both stressed and worried if everything would turn out alright. We set up and made sure everything was in place. The books looked great and the food looked delicious. We both felt accomplished to see it all coming together and to see how much the guests enjoyed their night
